MotionSites vs Subframe

Subframe's core loop is visual-to-code: you drag layers on a canvas, and each layer maps to React + Tailwind output you can sync into your IDE via npx @subframe/cli sync. It ships a design system with props, slots, and variants that stays in sync with code, responsive auto-layout, multiplayer collaboration with layer-level comments, and prototyping via annotated designs. AI is baked in for generating pages, themes, and components from prompts, plus remix variations and @mention page context. It integrates with Cursor, Claude Code, and MCP, and supports Agent Skills via npx skills add SubframeApp/subframe — signals it wants to live inside your coding agent's workflow. Crucially, exports are clean, non-AI-generated front-end code.

MotionSites is a different category entirely: it's a content library, not an editor. You get copy-paste prompts for landing pages, hero sections, footers, feature blocks, and CTAs, plus a dedicated Animated Backgrounds category for motion-led designs. Content is packaged as named design packs (RIVR, NOVA, Orbit Engineers, EMBER.dsgn, Digital Epoch), refreshed via daily library drops. Browse is organized by category (apps, sections, backgrounds, recent). MCP integration connects the library to AI workflows, and there's a free Academy for AI website design. There's no canvas, no code output, no component system — the prompt is the product.

Subframe is freemium, with the notable inclusion of unlimited collaborators and free viewer seats for stakeholder review — which matters if your workflow involves PMs, clients, or non-designers looking at screens. The paid dimension is really about what you get out of the tool (real code you own, IDE sync) rather than seats, so the effective comparison is against building that front-end by hand.

MotionSites is paid, but here's the honest problem: the vendor's tiers aren't currently retrievable. That means a buyer can't confirm what they'd pay before committing, and the description explicitly warns about buyers who need published pricing. Given that MotionSites isn't a builder — you still pay for (or already own) whatever AI site builder renders the prompts — the true cost is the subscription plus your existing builder. If you're stacking it on top of a builder you already pay for, that's fine if the prompts measurably cut your time. If you're starting fresh, you're pricing two line items, one of which you can't see upfront. Treat the missing pricing transparency as a real friction point, not a footnote.
