Sketch vs Weglot

The two products don't share a capability axis. Weglot's feature list is entirely about language delivery: a Custom AI Translation Model trained on brand tone and terminology (vendor-reported 90% acceptance rate), automatic hreflang tags, language-specific URLs, translated metadata, GEO optimization for AI Overviews, media translation for images and video, a Visual Editor for in-context edits, a Glossary, and translation exclusions for strings you don't want touched. Setup is a native plugin for 70+ platforms or a JavaScript snippet / reverse proxy for custom builds.

Sketch's feature list is entirely about design production: a vector editor with boolean operations, stack layouts that in the 2026.3 "Florence" release gained min/max size, relative sizing, negative spacing and z-index, Color Variables, tints and shared component Libraries, perceptual Oklab/Oklch gradients, Smart Animate prototyping, Overlays, hover/press/drag/swipe gestures, multi-directional scroll areas, browser/iPhone/iPad prototype testing, real-time co-editing, free developer handoff, and an MCP server that connects AI clients like ChatGPT and Claude to designs.

In other words, Weglot touches copy in dozens of languages across any web stack; Sketch touches vector layers on one operating system. The only theoretical contact point is integration surface — Sketch connects to Figma, Slack, Jira, Zeplin and MCP; Weglot connects to CMS and commerce platforms. Nothing here makes one a substitute for the other.

Both are freemium, but the meters are unrelated. Weglot charges by fixed word allowances — 2,000 / 10,000 / 50,000 — and the vendor's own "not for" list flags the key catch: those allowances don't renew and are pooled across every language you add. So a 10,000-word site translated into four languages consumes the same bucket four times over. Budgeting means forecasting total words x locales, and content-heavy archives can blow through a tier fast. Low-traffic sites may never recoup the subscription through international revenue, and regulated copy still needs separately paid human sign-off.

Sketch is priced around a one-time $120 Mac license versus a subscription, and it explicitly markets unlimited free developer and client Viewer seats — so the marginal cost of adding reviewers is zero, which is the opposite of a seat-scaled SaaS model. The trade-off is platform lock: that $120 buys a Mac-only editor, and the 2026.3 Florence release raised the floor to macOS Sequoia 15.0.0 (with 2026.3.1 adding macOS 27 Golden Gate support), so older machines need an OS upgrade to stay current. If you're on Windows or Linux, the license is worthless to you.

Comparing the numbers directly is meaningless: one is a recurring translation-volume cost that scales with languages and word count, the other a per-designer capital purchase with free downstream seats.
