The pitch is straightforward: instead of scrubbing through audio waveforms to find silences, or typing captions manually, you let an AI assistant handle it while you stay in your timeline. That's a workflow many editors will welcome. Where Cutback shines is its integration with Premiere. It's an official Adobe Video Partner, and the plugin approach means you don't have to export and re-import files to another app. The transcription anchors a lot of the features — silence removal, trimming by transcript, captions — so the quality of that transcription matters. On the Pro plan, you get 30 hours of transcription per month, which is plenty for most editors. The pricing is competitive, especially compared to Descript, which can get pricier for similar features. Cutback's free tier is limited to 3 hours of transcription and 3 silence removals per month — enough to test the waters, but not enough for serious use. The Basic tier feels like the smart entry point for daily creators, while Pro is for full-time professionals. However, there are real limitations. Cutback only works inside Adobe Premiere Pro — if you're on DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro, there's no native plugin, so this tool simply isn't an option. It's also an assistant, not a standalone editor — if you wanted to cut and assemble entirely within an AI tool like Descript, you won't find that here.
