Loopi's self-patching agents are a genuine innovation—letting an LLM rewrite workflows when goals aren't met. Add visual drag-and-drop, desktop control, and local-first privacy, and you have one of the most flexible free automation tools for power users and developers. The tradeoff: no cloud hosting or mobile access means it's best for single-machine, privacy-conscious setups.

How we score →Loopi is an open-source, local-first desktop automation platform that combines a visual workflow builder with real browser control, desktop cursor/keyboard automation, shell command execution, and goal-driven AI agents. It allows users to build automations using a drag-and-drop node editor with typed variables, branching, and loops. Agents bundle a plain-English goal, a set of workflows, a schedule, and an LLM; after each run, a reflection engine compares outcomes against the goal and automatically rewrites failing workflows. The platform runs entirely on the user's machine, supporting local LLMs via Ollama and cloud models via OpenAI or Anthropic (including Claude Code CLI). With 80+ built-in integrations and an AI copilot that writes steps conversationally, Loopi aims to make automation visual, inspectable, and controllable by the user. Unlike n8n or Zapier, Loopi offers real desktop and browser control alongside self-patching agents, all without telemetry or tracking.
Loopi occupies a unique niche: it's an open-source, local-first automation platform that combines visual workflow building with real browser control, desktop cursor/keyboard automation, shell commands, and self-patching AI agents. The v1.9.1 release introduced agents that reflect on each run and rewrite workflows when they fail—a capability we haven't seen in any other open-source tool. If you're a developer or ops engineer who needs to automate repetitive desktop and browser tasks while keeping sensitive data on your machine, Loopi is a strong candidate. Its 80+ built-in integrations (Slack, GitHub, Notion, Stripe, Postgres, etc.) and support for both local and cloud LLMs (Ollama, OpenAI, Anthropic) make it flexible. However, it's not for teams that need cloud hosting, mobile access, or multi-user collaboration out of the box. The closest alternative is n8n, but n8n lacks desktop control and self-patching agents. Loopi's O'Saasy license is open source, but be aware that reflection requires reasoning-capable models (small local models may be blocked). In practice, we'd reach for Loopi when we need a self-healing automation that owns its own stack—but we'd skip it if we need a fully managed service with zero setup.
