The Socratic tutor is the part that holds up in practice. Getting "here's why you picked C and why B is right" in seconds beats a forum thread from 2019 — and it's available at 2am, which is when most real studying happens. Where it bites: nothing here grades a written essay, and there's no human checking in on you. If you need a coach to enforce a schedule or a teacher to mark up your English responses, budget for a tutoring marketplace instead. Miyagi assumes you'll show up. The closest alternative is Khan Academy, which is free and official but gives you a syllabus rather than a diagnosis, and doesn't adapt to your specific subskills the way Adaptive Skills Review does. If you want the free-but-generic route, Khan works. If you want the platform to tell you what's wrong first, this is the differentiator. Global coverage is the other thing competitors don't match. A student in Lagos prepping for UTME or in Nairobi working through KCSE gets the same adaptive engine as a US SAT student — most prep apps are US-only with a token international page. The trade is depth: a niche national exam gets a thinner question pool than the SAT. One caveat worth knowing before you pay: the paid plan starts with a 3-day trial, and 3 days is enough to run the diagnostic, sit a section of a mock and judge whether the explanations land.
