Snipd

AI-powered podcast app to capture, chat with, and revisit key insights.

76/100Safe BetFree · from $6.99/month (annual available)Freemium

Snipd is the best tool for podcast listeners who want to build a knowledge base without leaving their headphones. Its hands-free snipping and AI chat are genuinely useful, though free users get only 2 episodes of AI per week. The Premium plan ($6.99/mo) is fair for unlimited AI, but the iOS/mobile-only nature is a real drawback for desktop users.

Skip it if

Skip Snipd if you prefer a web/desktop player (it's mobile-only) or if you don't want to rely on AI-based note-taking and want full manual control over clips.

The 30-second take
Biggest gripe

Going beyond 900 minutes of AI processing per month on Premium will require you to wait or upgrade; there's no stated overage fee, but processing stops until the next month.

Price reality

At $6.99/month (Premium), Snipd is cheaper than most podcast apps with AI features (e.g., Podcastle's Creator plan at $11.99/mo). Free tier is very limited, so value seekers should budget for Premium. Annual billing may reduce cost but pricing varies by App Store region.

In users’ own words

Hello to the 10 members ! I'm starting to use Snipd but struggle with auto download. Download can be made automatic when an episode is added to the queue but I don't find how to automatically add the new episodes to be queued. My goal is to have always the last 2-3 episodes of a podcast downloaded without having to manually do it. Thanks for your help.

Has anyone been able to get recent episodes of the JRE using Snipd? Or indeed any podcast note taking app?
deedeeophelia on Reddit · 2023-04-12
Is there a way to select a default translate app to use in transcripts? Every time I select "lookup", I have to re-select the translate app from ones on my phone. It's extremely annoying because my main purpose in using Snipd is to watch language learning podcasts where I am constantly looking up words.

About Snipd

FreemiumBeginner-friendlyNo APIWeb · Mobile

Snipd is an AI-powered podcast player that turns passive listening into active learning. With a simple headphone tap, you can save key moments from any podcast—each snip comes with an AI-generated transcript and summary. You can then chat with episodes as if they were a ChatGPT conversation, get AI-generated episode summaries before listening, and receive daily recap emails with spaced repetition to reinforce retention. The app is designed for lifelong learners, knowledge workers, and anyone who wants to extract actionable insights from podcasts without manual note-taking. It works with over 1 million AI-processed episodes, supports 26 languages, and integrates with personal knowledge management tools like Notion, Readwise, Obsidian, Bear, Logseq, and Glasp. You can also import audiobooks from Libro.fm, YouTube videos, or any audio file to process with AI. What makes Snipd different is its hands-free snipping via headphone taps, CarPlay, or Apple Watch, making it ideal for learning while driving, working out, or doing chores. The Auto-Snipping feature can automatically capture key insights as you listen, and the AI DJ feature lets you listen to the best parts of any podcast in 25% of the time.

Behind the Verdict

Snipd excels at capturing podcast insights with minimal friction. The triple-tap headphone snipping is a standout feature that works while driving (CarPlay) or exercising (Apple Watch). AI-generated transcripts, summaries, and chapter navigation help you quickly review content. Chat with episodes is like having a personal assistant for your audio library. Integrations with PKM tools (Notion, Obsidian, Readwise) make it easy to export snips into a second brain workflow. However, the free plan heavily restricts AI features (2 episodes/week), and Premium's 900-minute AI processing cap may limit heavy listeners. The app is mobile-only (iOS/Android), with a limited web presence—no desktop app. Some users report occasional processing delays for less popular episodes. Overall, for committed podcast learners willing to pay $6.99/mo, Snipd is a transformative tool.

Real-world workflow fit

Concrete scenarios for the personas Snipd actually fits — and what changes day-one when you adopt it.

Commuters who learn while driving

You listen to a podcast during your commute. When you hear a key insight, you triple-tap your headphones or use CarPlay to snip it. Later, you review the AI-generated transcript and summary, then chat with the episode to clarify details. The daily recap email reinforces retention with spaced repetition.

Outcome: You capture and retain 5-10 key insights per week without ever touching your phone.

Knowledge workers with a PKM system

You listen to industry podcasts during workouts. Using Apple Watch, you snip insights hands-free. Snipd auto-syncs to your Notion or Obsidian vault. You use custom AI prompts to tailor summaries to your taxonomy. Later, you chat with episodes to extract specific data points.

Outcome: Your second brain is populated with structured, searchable podcast highlights, saving hours of manual note-taking.

Students using podcasts as study material

You import a lecture recording or YouTube video into Snipd. AI generates chapters, transcript, and summary. You tap to snip key points, then chat with the episode to test your understanding. You export the entire experience to Markdown for your study notes.

Outcome: You have a searchable, annotated study guide from an audio lecture in 30 minutes.

Use Cases

Limitations

  • AI features on the free plan are limited to 2 episodes per week.
  • Premium users have 900 minutes of AI processing per month.
  • The app relies on processing episodes to enable AI features; while popular shows are pre-processed, other episodes may require manual processing.
  • Chat with episodes and custom prompts are Premium-only.

Ideal for

Casual podcast listeners who want unlimited listening and basic note-taking (snips) for up to 2 AI-processed episodes per week.

What this tier adds

Starting tier: unlimited listening and core features (transcripts, chapters, snips) are free, but AI features are limited to 2 episodes per week and no chat or import.

Premium

$6.99/month (annual available)

Ideal for

Active learners and knowledge workers who use podcasts as a primary learning source and need unlimited AI features, chat, and import capabilities.

What this tier adds

Adds unlimited AI features for 1M+ processed episodes, chat with episodes, import audio/YouTube, custom AI prompts, and 900 min/month AI processing.

Hidden costs & gotchas

What the public pricing page doesn't put in bold. Captured from pricing-page footnotes, contract terms, and recurring complaints.

  • Going beyond 900 minutes of AI processing per month on Premium will require you to wait or upgrade; there's no stated overage fee, but processing stops until the next month.
  • Some podcast episodes that aren't pre-processed require manual processing, which counts against your AI processing minutes on Premium.
  • The free plan's AI features are limited to 2 episodes per week, so active learners will almost certainly need the $6.99/month Premium plan.
  • If you want to use AI features on imported audio files or YouTube videos, you must be a Premium subscriber.

Where the pricing makes sense

The company stage and team size where Snipd's pricing actually pencils out — and where peers do it cheaper.

Setup time & first value

How long it actually takes to get something useful out of Snipd — broken out by persona, not the marketing-page minute.

For commuters: instant after download (just tap headphones). For PKM users: link your Notion/Readwise/Obsidian account (5 minutes). For students importing audio: upload and wait for AI processing (a few minutes per file). Full value within first podcast episode.

Switching to or from Snipd

Migrating in
  • From Apple Podcasts: Snipd imports your existing podcast subscriptions via OPML file, and you can start snipping immediately.
  • From Overcast: Snipd offers OPML import for subscriptions; your listening history won't transfer, but snips are new anyway.
  • From general note-taking: you can start fresh with Snipd's auto-snipping and then export snips to your existing PKM tool.
Migrating out
  • To any PKM tool: export all snips as Markdown files (preserving transcripts, summaries, and links) and import into Obsidian, Notion, or Roam.
  • To Readwise: Snipd has a direct integration to sync snips; you can disconnect and still keep your Readwise highlights.
