The pattern is straightforward: you're reading a Spanish news article or watching a German YouTube channel, you hit words you half-know, and instead of maintaining a separate notes file you drop the link into Vocabuo and let it build the cards. That's the whole pitch, and it works well enough that 150,000+ people have bothered to download it. Where it separates from Anki is setup cost. Anki gives you total control over decks, card templates, and scheduling — and charges you in hours of configuration. Vocabuo gives you less rope. You pick from content, the app extracts vocabulary, AI writes explanations, and the default spaced-repetition algorithm handles timing unless you want to set intervals yourself. For learners who abandoned Anki because maintaining the deck became the hobby, that trade is worth making. The CEFR A1–C2 wordlists matter more than they sound. Plenty of apps claim to teach vocabulary; fewer let you filter by the band you're actually working at, which is why reviewers keep flagging the C2 coverage as unusual.
