The interesting thing about WizChat is not the character chat — that field is crowded — but the delivery mechanism. The homepage frames the entire product around three constraints turned into promises: it runs in the latest Chrome, it needs no sign-up, and it requires a GPU on your own computer. That combination is what makes the privacy claim credible. There is no account to tie conversations to, no cloud service in the loop for the chat itself, and the site explicitly positions itself against services that "charge you and snoop on your conversations." Strengths: the on-device model keeps transcripts local, the zero-sign-up flow removes the usual onboarding friction, and the character library plus custom character creation covers the two things character-chat users actually do — pick someone to talk to, or invent one. For a writer prototyping dialogue, or a role-player who does not want a vendor sitting on their logs, that is a coherent package. Weaknesses are structural, and the vendor is upfront about them. It is alpha, so features will move and break. It needs the latest Chrome, which excludes Firefox and Safari users out of the gate. It needs a GPU, which excludes most laptops, tablets, and phones. And nothing on the site describes sync or backup — so the flip side of local-only is that your character library and your history live and die with that one machine. Where it fits: privacy-first hobbyists, role-players, and writers on a desktop with a real graphics card who are comfortable being early. Where it does not: anyone who wants to chat from a phone, anyone whose machine has integrated graphics only, and anyone who expects a sync feature or a support contract. Judge it as an alpha experiment with an unusually clean privacy story, not as a finished Character.AI replacement.
