Illustroke fills a narrow but real gap: turning text prompts into editable vector graphics. Most AI image generators output rasters, which is fine for many uses but painful when you need to scale a logo, recolor an icon set, or ship a custom illustration that matches your brand palette. Illustroke's output is SVG, which means you get layers, paths, and shapes you can open in Figma, Illustrator, or directly in code. That editability is the core selling point, and it's something Midjourney and DALL·E can't give you without manual tracing. The workflow is simple: type a prompt, pick a style preset (flat, outline, isometric, etc.), optionally set a custom color palette, and hit generate. If you don't like the result, you can regenerate with a different seed to get variations. The prompt refinement suggestions are a nice touch for users who aren't used to writing detailed prompts. For designers who need a consistent set of icons or illustrations, the Team plan's shared asset library could be genuinely useful, though it's limited to collaboration rather than full design-system management. Where Illustroke falls short is complexity. If you need photorealistic scenes, intricate details, or raster output for certain print or photo-composite workflows, it's the wrong tool. There's also no API, so you can't automate batch generation or integrate it into a build pipeline—which limits its use for large-scale asset production. Some users report inconsistent output on complex prompts, and the style presets are fairly basic, so you won't get fine control over composition or lighting. Ultimately, Illustroke is a specialized utility. It's great for freelancers, small teams, and content creators who need quick, editable vector assets without subscribing to a full design suite or wrestling with manual vector tracing. It's not a replacement for a design tool or a raster AI generator; it's a focused piece of the workflow that does one thing well.
