Units is an accredited online high school for students who want to move faster than their current school allows. Lessons are interactive rather than lecture-based — the site compares them to Brilliant, not a textbook — with adaptive difficulty and a Socratic AI tutor named Gilbert who steps in the moment you get stuck. Per the September 28, 2026 changelog, a lesson now opens only when your question actually names it or a quick check confirms the fit; otherwise Gilbert teaches the question you asked directly. The premise is blunt: AI is required, not banned. Students learn to direct it, explain their choices out loud in a recorded defense, then prove they can tell mediocre output from excellent by grading an AI draft themselves.
