Vectorizer.AI earns its keep in the specific job of turning a hand-drawn logo, scanned sketch or flat illustration into clean, editable vector geometry. The reason it outperforms the free tracers bundled with design software is architectural rather than cosmetic. Most tracers approximate every edge with cubic Beziers; Vectorizer.AI fits whole parameterized primitives — circles, ellipses, rounded rectangles and stars, at arbitrary rotation with optionally rounded corners — and selects per segment between straight lines, circular arcs, elliptical arcs and quadratic or cubic curves. A traced circle becomes a real circle you can resize by radius rather than 40 slightly uneven Bezier segments. Symmetry modelling does the same job for mirrored and rotationally symmetric marks, and the Corner Control workspace lets you decide which corners stay sharp and how large the rounded ones are, with live pan-and-zoom preview before you commit. Sub-pixel boundary placement from anti-aliasing values means fine details below one pixel still land in the output. Where it falls short is scale. The Web App processes one image at a time and input is capped at 3 megapixels — fine for logos and icons, useless for high-resolution photography or detailed scans. Pre-cropping is the recommended workaround: crop to the region you care about so only that area counts against the resolution budget. Anything at volume has to go through the API, and the API is credit-metered. Credits roll over up to 5× your monthly allotment so a spiky month doesn't waste spend, but when you exhaust them, requests return 402 Payment Required unless you've enabled auto-renewal. Watermarked PNG previews — four times input size, discreet watermark — cost 0.200 credits each, which is a real design decision if you build customer-facing flows where the buyer sees a result before purchase. Commercial terms are unusually blunt. Subscription fees are non-refundable, remaining credits are lost on cancellation, subscriptions auto-bill until cancelled, and subscriptions are personal and cannot be shared. The vendor states it does not accept purchase orders, does not issue invoices, and offers no academic or non-profit discount. If your procurement team needs a PO or an invoice, or if a department wants to share one seat, this is a blocker rather than a nuisance. Against that, the free unlimited interactive preview is the honest part of the offer: you can verify output quality on your own file, download results from the example images, and test the API's integration path before subscribing. Do that first. Compare Illustrator's Image Trace if you already own Creative Suite, or Inkscape's free tracer if your needs are casual — but if clean, editable, standards-compliant vectors from a sketch are the job, the shape-fitting engine is the differentiator.
