Stik App

Stik is a free, open-source macOS note-taking app built for instant capture. Press ⌘⇧S from anywhere, and a floating post-it appears — type your thought, press Escape, and you're back to work in under 3 seconds. Notes are saved as plain markdown files in ~/Documents/Stik/, with no account or cloud setup required. Built with Tauri and Rust for native performance, Stik runs entirely on your machine. What sets Stik apart is its on-device AI for semantic search and smart folder suggestions — all running locally with zero data leaving your Mac. Every note gets a 512-dimension vector embedding that powers semantic search, so you can find notes by meaning, not just keywords. AI folder suggestions appear as you type, learning from your existing notes. Stik is designed for keyboard power users: every action has a shortcut. Use ⌘⇧M for a Spotlight-style folder selector, ⌘⇧P for search, and ⌘⇧1-9 to jump to custom folders. Pin notes to stay on top of windows, or share notes as rich text, markdown, or image snapshots. Git-based sharing lets teams sync folders via any git remote, and iCloud Drive syncs notes across Macs with zero config. Unlike heavyweight apps like Notion, Obsidian, or Bear, Stik focuses solely on capturing fleeting thoughts before they disappear. It's the fastest path from thought to saved note on macOS, but it lacks rich text formatting, collaboration beyond git, and mobile support.
